Do You Need to Be Home When Your Cleaner Comes?
How access, communication and trust work when you're not home during your clean.
It's one of the first questions people ask when they're thinking about a regular cleaner: do I need to be home?
The short answer is no. Many of our clients are at work while we clean, and that's often the whole point. You leave in the morning, and you come home to a home that's already been looked after.
But it's completely normal to feel a little unsure about someone being in your home while you're out. Here's how it actually works, so you know what to expect.
Do you need to be home during a clean?
You don't need to be, but you're welcome to be. Some clients like to be home for the first clean so they can show us around and talk through what matters most to them. Others are happy for us to come and go while they're at work.
If you are home, you don't need to do anything special. Carry on with your day, and we'll work around you.
How access works when you're out
There's no one right way to do this. We'll simply agree on what suits you and your home. Common options include:
Being home to let us in, then heading out or carrying on with your day.
Leaving a key with us, or somewhere agreed.
A lockbox or keypad with a code you share with us.
Another arrangement that works for your household, such as a neighbour or building manager.
Whatever you choose, we'll talk it through with you first, so you're comfortable with how your home is accessed and secured when we leave.
What happens when we arrive
When we arrive, we let ourselves in the way we've agreed, and get started on your clean. We follow our checklist for the areas included in your service, along with any notes or preferences you've shared with us.
Over time, we get to know your home: how you like things done, the areas that need a little more attention, and the small details that matter to you. That means you don't have to explain the same things every visit.
How communication works if you're out
Being out doesn't mean being out of the loop. You'll receive a reminder before your clean, and a message when your clean is complete, so you know your home has been taken care of before you get home.
If you'd like something done differently, want us to focus on a particular area, or have a change to your usual routine, just let us know. Clear, easy communication is a big part of making regular cleaning feel effortless.
Why trust and consistency matter
Letting someone into your home is personal. It's where your family lives, where your pets spend their day and where your belongings are. It makes sense to want someone reliable, respectful and consistent.
That's what regular cleaning should feel like: someone who turns up as planned, treats your home with care and delivers the same standard every visit, without you needing to check up on them.
As one of our clients put it:
"She comes and goes while I'm at work... I completely trust her in my home, including with my pets."
We're also fully insured, and there's no lock-in contract, so you're never tied into something that isn't working for you.
What if something unexpected comes up?
Life happens, and plans change. If you need to reschedule, just give us at least 24 hours' notice.
If we notice something during your clean that needs extra time or attention beyond your booked service, we'll check with you first before going ahead, so there are no surprises.
And if you're not happy with any part of your clean, let us know within 24 hours and we'll come back to make it right.
Making cleaning one less thing to manage
The goal of regular cleaning isn't just a clean home. It's one less thing to think about. Whether you're home or at work, we take care of the details so you can come home to a space that feels fresh, calm and looked after.
